How Do You Carry What God Gave You?
There’s a part of obedience we don’t talk about very often.
We talk about the yes.
We talk about the waiting.
But we don’t always talk about what comes next.
What happens when obedience starts to feel heavy?
What happens when the calling God placed in your heart doesn’t feel light or joyful—but weighty, stretching, and lonely?
That’s where today’s question meets us:
How do you carry what God gave you?
When Obedience Feels Heavy
We often picture obedience as peaceful and affirming—something that comes with clarity and confirmation.
But real obedience usually looks different.
It looks like carrying something sacred while being misunderstood.
It looks like holding a promise before anyone else can see it.
It looks like staying faithful when the weight feels heavier than the joy.
And if that’s where you are right now, you’re not doing it wrong.
You’re carrying something holy.
Mary’s Story: The Weight Behind the Miracle
We love the image of Mary at Christmas—calm, glowing, surrounded by wonder.
But before the manger… before the angels… before the miracle was visible…
Mary carried weight.
She carried whispers and judgment.
She carried Joseph’s confusion before his dream.
She carried uncertainty, exhaustion, and the quiet loneliness of obedience.
She carried something from God that no one else could see yet.
From the outside, her life looked complicated—maybe even questionable.
From God’s perspective, she was carrying redemption.
Mary’s story reminds us of something important:
Obedience doesn’t always feel holy while you’re carrying it. Sometimes it just feels heavy.
When You’re Carrying Something No One Sees
Maybe you’re carrying something too.
A calling.
A dream.
A direction God whispered to your spirit.
A promise that feels beautiful—and heavy.
Maybe you can’t explain it.
Maybe people don’t understand it.
Maybe some days the weight strengthens you… and other days it wears on you.
And somewhere in the middle, you’ve wondered:
God… is this too much for me?
Here’s the truth Mary’s story speaks to us:
God never gives a calling without also giving the strength to carry it.
Before Mary ever carried Jesus, the angel told her the Holy Spirit would overshadow her.
God didn’t hand her the assignment and step away—He stayed present in every step.
What Carrying Well Can Look Like
Mary’s life offers us practical wisdom for carrying what God gives us:
Carry it one day at a time.
You don’t need strength for the whole future—just for today.
Lean on the people God sends.
Mary had Elizabeth. Joseph received confirmation. God never intended isolation to be part of obedience.
Let God grow what He gave you.
Mary carried Jesus—but she didn’t grow Him. God did.
Rest when you’re tired, not when you’re done.
Rest isn’t quitting. It’s part of obedience.
Remember why you said yes.
When the weight feels heavy, go back to the moment God spoke.
And remember this truth:
Weight builds strength.
Just like lifting weights, the resistance isn’t meant to crush you—it’s meant to strengthen you.
A Question to Sit With
As you move through this week, sit quietly with this:
What am I carrying that God entrusted to me—and how am I carrying it?
You don’t have to carry it perfectly.
You don’t have to carry it loudly.
You just have to keep carrying it—with God.
Something to Hold Onto
Here’s an affirmation you can return to when the weight feels heavy:
God trusted me with this.
God will grow this in His timing.
And God will strengthen me as I carry what He placed in my spirit.
If God gave it to you, He will sustain you through it.
You are not carrying alone.
You were chosen on purpose.
And what feels heavy now
is shaping you for what comes next.
