What Are You Protecting Your Heart With? | The Breastplate of Righteousness

Season 4 of My Question for You: Wisdom for Your Walk continues with SUITED UP, our series taking a fresh look at the armor of God—not just what each piece represents, but what it actually looks like to wear it.

This week, we’re putting on the breastplate of righteousness.
A breastplate protected something vital. So why does Paul connect that protection to righteousness?

And what happens when we try to protect ourselves with our own performance?

When we get something wrong, it’s easy to start defending ourselves, comparing ourselves to others, or trying to prove that we’re still okay. But if our protection depends on how well we’ve performed, what happens when our record doesn’t look so good?

That’s where the breastplate gives us a different picture.

Our righteousness before God isn’t something we manufacture one good decision at a time. Christ has already provided what we could never provide for ourselves.

That doesn’t mean how we live doesn’t matter. It changes why and how we live.

In this episode, we’re talking about what it looks like to wear the breastplate of righteousness when we fail, how it allows us to receive correction without turning failure into our identity, and why we don’t have to keep building our own defense.

Because your record was never your breastplate.

So here’s this week’s question:

What are you protecting your heart with?

📖 Scripture: Ephesians 6:10–18; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:8–9
